Our new Heavy Duty Compact Retractable Key Reel is a valuable addition to our range and offers our customers a powerful compact product that will hold heavy bunches of keys upto 200 grammes in weight! It’s also one of our lower priced heavy duty key reels so will be great if you have lots of staff or a tight budget. Perhaps particularly useful for security guards, drivers, handymen and bar or restaurant managers we imagine. Its also got a really thick cord designed to give longlasting lifespan to the reel.

Retractable lanyards combine the convenience of badge reels and lanyards together in one handy product. A normal lanyard can be restrictive when the user has to bend over to swipe their ID card or smart card close to a proximity reader or access control point. Retractable lanyards solve this problem because a key reel / yoyo / badge reel is built on the the end of the lanyard ribbon, allowing the user to extend the cord (with the card attached on the end) and gain access to the secured door or till / electronic cash register with minimal bending. The cord then very easily retracts back into the casing of the badge reel.
Retactable Lanyards are often used to display security passes or ID Cards for businesses, conferences, events, festivals, hospitals, educational establishments. They are much used too by the pub trade, bars, restaurants, shops and retail outlets to use with dallas keyfobs or smart cards for EPOS (electronic point of sale).
Retractable lanyards will also prevent school-children losing their house keys or ID cards ever again! In fact they’re useful to anyone who wants to keep frequently used items handy and accessable. Metal Detectable products are increasingly required in order to assure “due diligence” within the food and pharmaceutical processing / manufacturing industries.
The x-ray visible Retractable Badge Reel containing virtually entirely metal components (including a steel cord) provides a solution to keeping suitable swipe cards, security passes, ID Cards, keys or small tools handy in an industry where production outputs are scanned for foreign objects using conventional production line metal detection systems.
Customised logos may optionally be embedded into the metal casing of the all-metal reel to convey a corporate logo or message whilst still ensuring the visibilty to metal detection systems and combatting the possibility of product contamination.

Badge Reels are a bit like yoyo’s but the casing has a clip that attaches to your clothing and the end of the cord has a plastic clip that attaches to your ID card holder or keys. The cord is usually made of nylon and is wrapped around a spindle within the badge reel casing. A spring is attached to the spindle to keep the cord under tension. This allows the user to extend the cord when swiping their ID card or smart card through a till or access control point, once the job is done the cord will automatically retract leaving only the ID card on display. When the plastic clip on the end of the cord is replaced by a split ring key-ring attachment the product is called a key reel.
Standard or economy badge reels are often used by office workers to extend their passes or ID Cards close to access control points while leaving the ID badge conveniently on display. They are also widely used for conferences and exhibitons.
There are also medium duty and heavy duty versions of key reels that allow heavier bunches of keys or even heavy tools to be held handily at the users waist and are more suitable for heavy commercial use in bars and restaurants (with dallas keys, till tags or bottle openers) or within a factory / industrial setting.
Retractable key reels or badge reels can also be used for marketing purposes as promotional giveaways and logos or messages can be added to the logo recess in the centre of the casing.

They are also commonly used by the retail, pub, bar and restaurant trade to use with dallas keys or smart cards for electronic point of sale (EPOS) purposes.
A commonly chosen alternative to neck lanyards are Badge Reels. They are chosen for their convenience as they are usually attached at the waist and have a retractable cord to save the user leaning over when swiping their smart card through access control points or attaching their dallas key etc to EPOS terminals.
Neck Strap Lanyards also allow the hand-free display of name badges for security and the ability pass through ID card readers etc.
They can be in a variety of widths and colors and often come with a breakaway clip for safety purposes or a quick release mechanism for convenience when used as mobile phone holders, cameras or USB memory sticks.
Lanyards come with a variety of attachments such as a keyring, bulldog or crocodile clip. The attachments can directly attach to the ID card or smart card if they have a suitable hole incorporated. If there is no hole already in the card an ID Card Hole / Slot Punch can be used to provide a slot to attach the ID card to the lanyard. The common alternative is to hold the name badge in an ID Card Holder and this attach to the Lanyard.
They also great as promotional giveaways as lanyards can be custom printed with a logo or promotional message. The most common printing method is screen-printing. Customised lanyards are also a useful way to provide extra security when used with ID cards or name badges.

ID card holders come in many shapes and forms. If your ID card has no hole in the plastic you will need an ID Card Holder. These can be flexible or rigid holders which have a hole in them to attach to neck lanyards or retractable badge reels. Badge reels are generally less cumbersome to use and more attractive.
ID card holders are made to fit all credit card sized cards and are ideal for identity cards, visitor badges, smart cards and security passes. Some of the rigid ID card holders are made to hold multiple cards, either one on each side (in the case of open ID card Holders) on 2 inside (in the case of versatile buddy enclosed ID Card Holders).
The open identity pass holders securely hold the card in place but are open to the elements and scratching! The cards are easier to remove in open holders. However Enclosed ID card holders are more protective of the card and are better suited if the user doesn’t need to remove the card for access control or electronic point of sale purposes.
